Best Alternatives for Exodus – Exodus Replacements and Workarounds

You maybe have heard that TVAddons.ag stopped working few days ago, as a result, all addons were shut down tooe.  Exodus – one of them – as well as others went down too as it was stored on the common for all web site. This guide was created in order to show some alternatives for Kodi addons and workarounds to deal with the recent Exodus situation.

The last storage for Exodus software is unknown and developers do not reveal the information.  but code is available and looks pretty much alive.  The solution is to install 6 zip files to continue using Exodus. These files store artworks, URL resolver and other components on the TVAddons site.  All links for files you can find here in the article below, along with easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

If you want to turn your Kodi box back to life again you can just install another addon.  Specto (another good tracker) is still online, though it has been laggy in recent days due to traffic increases.  Additionally, there are several other quality addons that are also still available.

Before we Proceed

The best way to use Kodi safely is to switch on VPN. Kodi users sometimes can receive copyright infringement papers for streaming through various Apps, so you have to be secured and prepared. If you like staying in privacy, we recommend to use IPVanish VPN connection – it guarantees 100% privacy for Kodi users. It’s worth noting but a purchasing of 12 month subscription and getting two months free .

What happened?

Last few weeks were quite troublemaking for Kodi users. First, the EU courts decided that watching an unlicensed stream is just as illegal as downloading a pirated file.  This decision has caused many UK and Europe based developers to stop working on Kodi projects.

Next, an American satellite service and broadcast company called Dish Network sued the creators of TVAddons and Zem TV.  Other addon makers panicked and started shutting down. As a result, many popular addons are currently offline.  Also, the ones that have remained are experiencing slowdowns due to increased traffic.

Beasts with many heads

When the web sites goes down nobody can fix the issue.  That’s why controversial sites often have to relocate to stay alive.  For example, the torrenting site Pirate Bay has operated out of Greenland, Iceland, St. Martin, Peru and Guyana at various times over the course of its history.

However, a Kodi video has a different nature.  You can shut down an ordinary website for a while by chopping off its head.  However, Kodi addons have multiple heads.  And if you chop one off, another one can sprout up at any time.

When you open an addon you actually connect to web resources located all over the world, so no wonder that the process may take some time and some sorts of problems may occur too.  In order to shut down a video addon for good, you’d have to kill off every single one of its sources.  However, there is no easy way to do that because many of the computers that store video streams are located in countries that either don’t enforce copyright laws or don’t have any copyright laws at all.

Authorities always try to shut down stream services, however they have never managed to do that completely.  So now, they are going after addon makers and the sites that host the actual addon files.  But that’s an even more difficult thing to do, because addon installation files are extremely tiny– and very easy to share online.

  • Note: One way a Kodi addon can stop working is if the developers deliberately render it inert via an automatic update. In order to avoid this, you may want to turn off automatic updates for your addons. To see how to do that, please read our guide here.

Option #1: Install the full version of Exodus

As mentioned above, if you have the full Exodus code you can run Exodus without the help of a website.  Here’s how to install the full version of Exodus.

Before you begin

To avaoid some problems you can reinstall your Exodus addon.  This will help you avoid any potential conflicts.  The steps listed below were verified on a fresh Kodi installation.

1.  Download the Exodus installation files.

Download Exodus_3.1_Full.zip from TinyUpload.

Note: If the download link doesn’t work when you click on it, disable your adblocker and try it again.

2.  Extract the 6 zip files

Inside Exodus_3.1_Full.zip, you’ll find 6 additional zip files.

Extract all 6 zips, and then open up Kodi.

3.  Install the 6 zip files

Once you’re in Kodi, click addons from the side menu.  Then, click the box icon.

Next, click install from zip file.  After you install all 6 zip files, you’ll be able to use Exodus again.

Pros

The method described above prevents a lot of Kodi errors when you try to open Exodus anymore.  You’ll be able to use Exodus to look for streams again, and your experience will be the same as it was before TVAddons shut down.

Cons

The main downside of opting to use the the standalone version of Exodus is that it prevents you from downloading Exodus updates.  The Exodus team used to update Exodus’s source list on a regular basis.  If a source went offline, they would remove it from the list.  But now that TVAddons is down and Exodus is no longer getting updates, Exodus will slowly become irrelevant as its source list ages.

Option #2: Install Exodus via a different repository

Update 6/27/2017: This method no longer works because the administrator of Simply Caz decided to remove Exodus from his repository.

An alternative is install Exodus using a totally new depository.  Currently, the repository called Simply Caz has a working version of Exodus.  So, if you have Simply Caz you can use Exodus normally without running into errors.

Here’s how to install Exodus via Simply Caz:

Quick installation

  1. From your Kodi home page, click on the gear symbol at the top left
  2. Click on file manager
  3. Select add source
  4. Click where you see <None> and enter the following address: http://repo.cazwall.com/sc/
  5. Give it a name at the bottom, then click OK
  6. Return to your Kodi home screen
  7. Hover over addons on the right and then click on my addons
  8. Click on install from zip
  9. Click on repository (Click Here)
  10. Click on the zip file: repository.simplycaz-x.x.x.zip
  11. Click install from repository
  12. Click simply caz repo
  13. Click video addons
  14. Click exodus
  15. Click install

Pros

If whoever runs the Simply Caz repo decides to update Exodus’s source list occasionally, Exodus will stay up-to-date.

Cons

If the Simply Caz repo goes offline, you’ll have to start all over from scratch and find another way to stream movies and TV shows.

Option #3: Switch to Specto

Specto is still safe and sound.  If you like Exodus, you’ll have no trouble using Specto.  Specto’s interface is almost exactly the same as Exodus’s.

Exodus and Specto have not so much differences, nonetheless there is favorite section that really matters.  With Exodus, you have to get an IMDb or Trakt account if you want to bookmark your favorite shows and movies.  But with Specto, you can setup your favorites from inside the addon by saving your favorite content to the “My Specto” directory.

Specto is great.  And because it’s still online, it’s still receiving updates.  If you use option #1 or option #2 to restore access to Exodus, you’ll be stuck using an older version of it until the Exodus team comes back and starts pushing out updates.

On the other hand, Specto suffers from freezes and being slow.  Because the sites that hosted the Phoenix and Exodus repos are offline, more people are switching over toSpecto.  As a result, Specto is sluggish at certain traffic heavy times of the day.

Quick Specto installation guide

  1. Go to http://kodi.filmkodi.com/repository.filmkodi.com/ and download repository.filmkodi.com[VERSION].zip.
  2. Open Kodi and click addons, then click the box icon and choose install from zip file.
  3. Click desktop then select repository.filmkodi.com[VERSION].zip.
  4. Click install from repository.

Click filmkodi.com repository – mrknow, then video addons, then specto.

For more information about Specto and installation screenshots, read: Specto Kodi Addon – How to Install Specto on Kodi

Pros

The Specto developers are continuing the Specto project.  Following the fall of TVAddons, Specto developers have continued to maintain Specto and expand its source list.

Cons

As mentioned above, Specto is slow these days due to increased traffic.  Also, if Dish Network is willing to sue Zem TV it may target Specto next.

Option #4 Switch to Elysium

Update 6/27/2017: The instructions listed below no longer work because the administrator of the Simply Caz repo decided to remove Elysium from his repository.

Like Specto, Elysium has the same interface as Exodus.  The menus and features are just about identical.  The only apparent difference between Elysium and Exodus is the artwork and the source list.

Here’s how to install Elysium via the Simply Caz repository:

Quick installation

  1. From your Kodi home page, click on the gear symbol at the top left
  2. Click on file manager
  3. Select add source
  4. Click where you see <None> and enter the following address: http://repo.cazwall.com/sc/
  5. Give it a name at the bottom, then click OK
  6. Return to your Kodi home screen
  7. Hover over addons on the right and then click on my addons
  8. Click on install from zip
  9. Click on repository (Click Here)
  10. Click on the zip file: repository.simplycaz-x.x.x.zip
  11. Click install from repository
  12. Click simply caz repo
  13. Click video addons
  14. Click elysium
  15. Click install

Pros

Elysium is not as popular as Specto, so it’s not as likely to be targeted by authorities.

Cons

Elysium appears to have a pretty solid source list, but it may not be as big as Specto’s or Exodus’s.

Option #5: Switch to SolarMovie

Update 6/27/2017: The instructions listed below no longer work because the administrator of the Simply Caz repo decided to remove SolarMovie from his repository.

SolarMovie is different compared to the other video addons on this list because much of its content comes from a website source.

The SolarMovie is dying with no explanations.  A Quora userhas speculated that the original SolarMovie site may have been owned by Artem Vaulin– the same person who operated the Kick Ass Torrents torrent site.  Around the time Vaulin was arrested for copyright infringement, the original SolarMovies site went down and a group of copycat sites sprung up in its place.

Looking for SolarMovie developers? There’s no sure way to tell who is behind SolarMovie these days, but one thing is clear: its streams are reliable and of high quality.  The SolarMovie addon gives you access to the SolarMovie websites via Kodi, plus a few additional sources.

Quick Installation

  1. From your Kodi home page, click on the gear symbol at the top left
  2. Click on file manager
  3. Select add source
  4. Click where you see <None> and enter the following address: http://repo.cazwall.com/sc/
  5. Give it a name at the bottom, then click OK
  6. Return to your Kodi home screen
  7. Hover over addons on the right and then click on my addons
  8. Click on install from zip
  9. Click on repository (Click Here)
  10. Click on the zip file: repository.simplycaz-x.x.x.zip
  11. Click install from repository
  12. Click simply caz repo
  13. Click video addons
  14. Click solarmovie
  15. Click install

For more information and installation screenshots, read: Solar Movie Addon for Kodi – How to Install Solar Movie on Kodi

Pros

Much of Solar Movie’s content comes from a website that has stood the test of time and is unlikely to go down anytime soon.

Cons

This addon doesn’t have as much content compared to competing video addons.

Option #6: Switch to Bubbles

Update 6/27/2017: The instructions listed below no longer work because the administrator of the Simply Caz repo decided to remove Bubbles from his repository.

Bubbles is a new streaming addon that has started gaining popularity in recent weeks.

Bubbles is not as good as Specto and Elysium because you have to pay to get access to high definition streams.  However, it may be a good idea to get Bubbles if you simply want a backup in the event that Specto and Elysium both go offline.

  1. From your Kodi home page, click on the gear symbol at the top left
  2. Click on file manager
  3. Select add source
  4. Click where you see <None> and enter the following address: http://repo.cazwall.com/sc/
  5. Give it a name at the bottom, then click OK
  6. Return to your Kodi home screen
  7. Hover over addons on the right and then click on my addons
  8. Click on install from zip
  9. Click on repository (Click Here)
  10. Click on the zip file: repository.simplycaz-x.x.x.zip
  11. Click install from repository
  12. Click simply caz repo
  13. Click video addons
  14. Click bubbles
  15. Click install

Pros

Bubbles isn’t the best video addon out there, but it’s a good one to have for backup purposes.

Cons

You have to pay extra if you want to get HD streams.
